Meg Wohlberg's first job as an illustrator was in advertising, where she learned production and how to use direction in her work. She began illustrating children's books when that urge "could no longer be suppressed" (Kingman's "Illustrators...."). Wohlberg self-illustrated several books in the 1940s, but illustrated for many other authors thereafter. From the description of Papers, 1940-1968. (University of Minnesota, Minneapolis).
